My 6'1 Sunova surfboard Pro model has arrived

Sunova took longer than planned to deliver my board but it's finally here. Its been about a month now if Im not wrong. My first impression was that the board was too thin, rails are really low and it seemed to have not as much volume as I wanted. The board is extremelly well built, a bit different from Firewire and the balsa bottom looks great!

I was really surprised to see that it actually paddles really well and I have no problems getting into waves. I go down to Margaret River every weekend I can as waves here in Perth suck big time. The surf down South is quite heavy, its called by some the Ozzie Hawaii, which means plenty of size and power.

I tested it at some heavy, nasty beach and reef breaks down South, everything between 2' to solid 5' (hawaiian metric system). Board holds really well in hollow waves up to 5 foot. Loose but lots of drive and speed. I'm still getting used to it but I can definitely say that I really like the board.

Just placed my order with Sunova by email today. I ordered a 6'1 for heavier, hollower waves between 2 and 4 foot. Apparently they are not fully ready to start so I will keep my blog visitors informed about how things are going.

I've been even dreaming about getting a new surfboard. I was going to wait and sell my old one to order a new one but just couldn't resist!

Sunova technology from WA shaper Bert Burger

I was doing some Internet research about Firewire Surfboards. I tried my friend's Firewire 5'11 at 2' Dreamland in Bali last week and sort of like it more than I actually like my Webber Tuflite.

I found out that shaper Bert Burger has sold his Sunova surfboards technology to Queensland shaper Nev and this Billabong guy (that sold his bong shares for something like 60 million bucks) and they re-named it Firewire, built a big fabric in Thailand and are selling boards like crazy.
Apparently Bert Burger was working for Firewire surfboards but for some unknown reason Bert Burger split with Firewire and got back to his Sunova surfboards business. That got me curious!

So I kept doing my Internet research and discovered Sunovas' website... well... I've gota go now, finish my story later, see yas!
